Welcome

Welcome to the website of the Lothian Postcard Club.  We are a friendly and enthusiastic group of postcard collectors, and meet monthly between March and December each year. Whether you are new to the hobby or an established collector, or simply want to find what it’s all about, we hope you enjoy exploring the site. We will be adding new material here over the next few months such as our Star Postcard Blog . And of course we’d love to see you at a meeting!

We are based in Edinburgh, so members often have a collecting interest in the city and the surrounding areas, and Scotland generally. But members’ interests also range much further afield, including Eastern Europe and the Far East, as well as topics such as golf, shipping, military history, individual postcard publishers, and much more. Many members collect in more than one area, too.

The four cards shown on this page, from our members’ collections, all have some association to our local area. But they also illustrate other collecting themes as well. At above left, this card commemorates the Royal Volunteer Review of 1905 held in Edinburgh, but also touches on royalty and militaria as subject matter. Above right, the card shows an old image of the lifeboat crew at Dunbar, East Lothian, featuring a nautical topic and social history.

Meanwhile below left, this “real photo” postcard shows the aftermath of a fire in Penicuik, Midlothian, and again is an example of social history. Finally, below right, this card shows the Forth Bridge, in historical West Lothian, but is also an example of a WW1 “silk” and related to railways.

And we do more than just collect postcards. Our annual programme includes social events, too, such as summer outings to historical places of interest in the Lothians, and a Christmas party.
