In central Scotland, and areas not far beyond, we are quite well served for postcard fairs and other relevant events at some of which you might find cards for your collection. As well as dedicated postcard fairs, many antique fairs, book fairs (such as those hosted by the Provincial Booksellers Fairs Association), “flea markets”, some charity shops and car boot sales can be worthwhile hunting grounds. It’s always wise to check with the fair organiser before travelling any distance, as dates and venues can sometimes change at short notice.
Do please let us know via the Contact Us page if you have relevant dates we could add.
You can also consult a wider list of postcard fairs on the Postcard Traders Association website – please see postcard fairs across the UK.
The photos below show a selection of dealers’ boxes at a recent postcard fair – lots of different topics, and lots and lots of cards – hours of browsing fun !

Other regular events that often have postcard sellers, or other stalls with postcards, include the following :
- the monthly antique fair at the Bellahouston Leisure Centre, 31 Bellahouston Drive, Glasgow, usually on the second Sunday of the month – see more on the Glasgow Antique Fair website.
- the monthly “Flea Market” at the Out of the Blue venue at 36, Dalmeny Street, Edinburgh, usually the last Saturday of the month – see more on the Out of the Blue website.

A talk by David Bellis on 1 November 2025
David Bellis, B.E.M., who runs the popular website http://www.gwulo.com, will visit Glasgow to show some of his fascinating photos of old Hong Kong.
Dating from the early 20th century back to the 1880s, the photos show an old Hong Kong that has long since disappeared. They have been scanned at high resolution, enabling David to show us the photos’ minutest details, and so reveal their hidden stories.

The speaker : David has recently returned to the UK after more than thirty years in Hong Kong. He started the Gwulo website in 2009 giving a unique space for people to learn about Hong Kong’s history and share their experience. With over 50,000 pages, including over 30,000 pictures, it is a marvellous resource for those interested.
David received the SCMP’s Spirit of Hong Kong award for Heritage Preservation for his work on Gwulo in 2014. More recently he was awarded the British Empire Medal for his services to Heritage Preservation in Hong Kong, in this year’s New Year’s Honours List.
David is a regular speaker, using photos from his collection to introduce Hong Kong’s history in a way that is easy for audiences to enjoy. He has also published a series of five illustrated books, Volumes 1 – 5 of Old Hong Kong Photos and The Tales They Tell. The Chinese translation of Volume 1 was published this year. The books will be available to buy at a discounted price, either in person at the event, or by pre-order when you buy your tickets.
